Janus Henderson Investors Financial Risk Manager (13 month FTC) in Luxembourg

The department

The Risk and Compliance functions include approximately 125 roles globally, the majority of which are in the London headquarters and the Denver office. In Luxembourg, the Risk team counts at present 2 people, covering the cycle of identification, measurement, analysis, recommendation plan and follow-up of risks related to funds under management as well as the performed activities, with the main objective to ensure that inherent risks remain within the framework stated by the Management Company risk appetite.

Overview of the role

This role will mainly cover Financial Risk with a small role in the oversight of Operational Risk . The role will work closely with the Risk teams in London and Denver, working closely on key global projects, developments and enhancements to the Global Financial Risk framework.

This role is located in our Luxembourg office, and will form a core part of the local team which includes a number of product, distribution, operations, risk and compliance professionals. The role will focus on our Luxembourg and Irish fund ranges and will offer the opportunity to be involved in corporate projects as well as local operations.

Duties and responsibilities

You will:

  • Lead on UCITS/AIF financial risks monitoring and reporting:

  • Main tasks:

  • Daily VaR and commitment and leverage monitoring, and facilitate actions as necessary in the event of limit breaches;

  • Reviewing and approving derivatives exposure thresholds;

  • Monitor liquidity risks daily reports and liquidity and market stress tests;

  • Monitor OTC counterparty risk (EMIR to be considered);

  • Generate and review statutory Financial Statements risk notes and derivatives disclosures (cyclical rolling monthly),

  • Coverage:

  • UCITS and AIFs under management

  • Luxembourgish and Irish funds

  • Participate in the development of an improved and consistent process and framework for VaR and leverage reporting across all relevant fund ranges, with the main aim of minimizing manual work,

  • Have responsibility for reporting for Financial Risk (market, liquidity, and credit risk) to:

  • CSSF (i.e. semi-annual UCITS report, high leverage funds report)

  • CBI (for Irish funds)

  • Funds boards (quarterly);

  • HMSA (weekly, monthly, quarterly);

  • monthly / reports for trustees, depositaries, clients

  • ad hoc report if needed

  • Participate in the update and further development of the Risk Management policy and process for HMSA.

  • Participate in the oversight of operational risk management.

  • Lead the preparation of sub-funds risk profiles for UCITS and AIF under management and the set-up of related risk limits and thresholds.

  • Participate in the pricing policy review and be involved in pricing issues discussions and follow-up.

  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Supervisory responsibilities

Technical skills and qualifications

  • Experience in risk management and controls activity

  • Good academic record in finance and quantitative field (graduate/post graduate)

  • Good understanding of financial markets and risk management, with the ability to challenge fund managers

  • Good understanding of different risk measures

  • Good understanding of financial instruments and portfolio construction

  • Good knowledge of applicable UCITS and AIFM regulation and local regulatory environment

  • Sound knowledge of other CSSF and CBI regulatory requirements and principles

  • Good IT skills, including PowerPoint, Excel
