Role Purpose
Responsible for conducting theoretical and applied research on market structure and trading-cost models. Works with the Trading and the Portfolio Management team members to design and implement system enhancements. Operates all trading-system applications with other team members, including the reviewing of security transactions for reasonableness, handling the release and return of orders, and ensuring all relational edits within the trading system are operating within parameters. Provides system support to all trading applications including interfaces with various parties such as data vendors, clients, and custodians.
Essential Functions
Day-to-day operations
Develops a deep understanding of all aspects of the trading system
Operates the trading system as a member of the trading team
Maintains and troubleshoots all trading system applications
Documents the trading system environment
Long-term research
Performs quantitative research on market structure and trading-cost models
Proactively analyzes data, runs simulations, and pursues a wide range of research projects, for example investigating the use of alternative data sources (such as Intech’s nascent microprediction capabilities) to estimate transaction costs
Designs and implements system enhancements in a highly collaborative environment with Trading and Portfolio Management team members
Qualifications
Knowledge and Skills
Proficient knowledge of a structured programming language
Experience working with Unix-like operating systems (preferably Linux)
High standards of ethical conduct in adherence to applicable securities law and company policies
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently within established guidelines
Strong project-management skills and ability to collaborate flexibly in a team setting
Minimum Experience and Education
Ph.D. degree in natural sciences or mathematics.
Practical experience in computer programming (ideally in a C-type language).
No prior exposure to finance or investments is required.
