The department

The Janus Henderson Portfolio Construction and Strategy (PCS) team is situated within Global Marketing and provides educational insights to our clients through proprietary analytics, thought leadership, and frequent in-person engagements. The client benefit is a better understanding of their own asset allocations and the sharing of our firm’s knowledge and insights. Our team is critical to a sophisticated, consultative sales process. We are offered to clients as a product agnostic, objective service and we are an engine of thought leadership that is fully integrated with Distribution and Marketing. A successful Senior Portfolio Strategist combines a sophisticated, rigorous, analytical skillset with a strong suite of communication skills to engage with clients and internal teams on a wide variety of strategic asset allocation, tactical allocation, manager implementation, and macroeconomic projects.

Overview of the role

As Senior Portfolio Strategist, your primary responsibility is to be an asset allocation and portfolio implementation subject matter expert and engage with your clients in this capacity. You will communicate both on the phone and in person to build and deliver customized portfolio analysis presentations and be responsible for client- facing content and thought leadership generation, to be delivered through various methods including in-person presentations, articles and blog posts. You will be expected to attend client meetings and conference presentations, as well as work with our Technology partners to design and implement scalable, client-facing portfolio analysis tools and presentations.

Duties and responsibilities

You will:

  • Be primarily focused on our intermediary clients located in Latin America, US Offshore, and Iberia

  • Be completely comfortable conversing with these clients, and related sales teams, in English and Spanish

  • Work closely and travel with our sales team to drive client engagement through both individual client meetings, small group presentations, and appearance at industry conferences

  • Provide and present customized asset allocation analytics

  • Partner with sales and technology resources to enhance Janus Henderson's Portfolio Construction and Strategy offerings and deliverables dependent on client needs

  • Contribute concepts and ideas for client-facing content and thought leadership

  • Research industry best practices surrounding portfolio construction techniques, risk metrics, and evolving trends

  • Use PCS deliverables to help implement strategies that deliver results on target with client investment objectives

  • Work with sales to identify potential fit for Janus Henderson strategies both pre- and post-client engagement

  • Position products across institutional, intermediary and international distribution channels seeking opportunities to actively promote products and drive sales

  • Stay current on capital markets and industry trends to further subject matter expertise in portfolio strategy

    Technical skills and qualifications

  • Multi-asset experience as a portfolio construction subject matter expert, multi-asset client portfolio manager, or multi-asset product manager

  • Extensive client-facing experience with intermediary clients, including both individual client meetings and large group presentations

  • English and Spanish languages required

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent required; master’s degree preferred

  • CFA charterholder required

  • Deep experience with asset management industry, including knowledge of Distribution channels such as institutional, adviser-driven, platform placement and/or insurance, with the ability to quickly learn key drivers and needs of other channels

  • Extensive Excel and PowerPoint skills

  • Coding experience a plus

  • Comfort with detailed data analysis, from sources including Morningstar Direct, Bloomberg, FactSet, and eVestment

    Competencies required

  • Ability to set goals, work independently and get results

  • Ability to assimilate complex and varied market data into a timely case for portfolio implementation

  • Ability to partner with Technology developers to design and automate sophisticated quantitative portfolio analysis

  • Solid verbal and written communication skills including strong presentation skills required

  • Ability to drive ideas from concept to completion through efficient project management and execution

  • Proven organizational, analytical and problem solving skills

  • Commercial mindset
