The Network and Communications team are responsible for all voice and data networking platforms at Janus Henderson.
Overview of the role
You will be working within the network and communications team, providing technical leadership for network related projects, network engineering improvements to the existing infrastructure and network operations support.
Duties and responsibilities
Work within the network & communications operations team, responsible for designing and implementing new solutions.
Assist with the implementation and ongoing support of an enterprise-class networking and communications environment.
Assist with managing incoming network incident and problems. and working these to resolution.
Liaise with vendors, carriers, service providers and clients to resolve problems and design new requirements.
Assist project managers to implement major new projects.
Assist the team to implement service improvements, security fixes and routine upgrades.
Assist with proactive improvement initiatives including the analysis of best practices, identification and mitigation of risks posed by single points of failure, root cause analysis, auditing current infrastructure and design, and testing for redundancy and failover.
Agree design standards and ensure they are followed by the wider team, peer review and approve changes.
Regularly interact with Infrastructure Architecture team to ensure Design Standards match Architecture Positions.
Ensure appropriate documentation is created and published (High Level Designs, Low Level Designs, Operability Guides, network diagrams, etc.).
Provide excellent customer service and support to our clients and partner organizations.
Provide split shift coverage of office working hours between 8am-6pm.
Provide out of hours support via on call rota.
Occasional weekend work as required.
Occasional travel to data centres and remote offices as required.
Carry out additional duties as assigned.
Technical skills and qualifications
Cisco routing and switching platforms.
Cisco data centre platforms, such as Nexus switches, NX-OS & ACI fabrics.
Cisco wireless LAN controllers and wireless access points.
Cisco WAN acceleration platforms.
Cisco ISE platform for TACACS, wired and wireless NAC.
Palo Alto firewalls, Global Protect, App-ID, Content-ID, Panorama.
F5 BigIP load balancers.
Netscaler load balancers and Citrix gateways.
Understanding of MPLS managed service WAN operations.
Understanding of Internet BGP, DMVPN and IPSEC VPN operations.
Deep understanding of TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, NAT, 802.1x, Spanning-Tree, QoS.
Solarwinds network management platform.
Use of analysis tools such as Wireshark.
Virtualized data centre environment networking.
Cloud connectivity to AWS and/or Azure.
Knowledge of Python, Ansible and Terraform is desirable.
Knowledge of Cisco ACI is desirable.
CCNP or higher preferred.
