Overview of the role

The successful candidate will build strategic data integration and data analytics solutions for our sales and marketing reporting and analytics processes. These data platform includes client and product data assets. The candidate will be experienced in developing in multiple data integration technologies, preferably WYSIWYG tools like Informatica and scripting languages such as Python. This role assists in the design, build, and support of the Global Client Analytics data platform in the cloud as well as some BAU support of on-premise Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server data warehouses to support many data aspects of JHI Distribution.

The JHI Distribution data space is in a transition period. Significant data assets are located in on-premise hardware and software, such as Oracle, Informatica, Autosys, and Microsoft SQL Server. Currently Janus is embarking on an effort to consolidate data stores from all of our global locations and provide a self-service analytics environment. This consolidation will be designed and built in the cloud, so this candidate would have experience in one or more cloud platforms.

Projects typically include the design and delivery of;

  • Data Architectures and Modeling

  • Data pipelines between external systems and sales and marketing data platforms.

  • Ensuring and promoting an open source culture

  • Data solutions for business intelligence and predictive analytics.

Duties and responsibilities

You will:

  • Perform design, documentation, development, testing, installation and support of complex data ETL/ELT programs (pipelines), using Informatica, AWS Glue, Azure Data Factory, or similar ETL/ELT platforms, as well as knowledge of data warehousing, data mart, and data lake architectures, concepts and processes

  • BAU support on existing data designs in Oracle, SQL Server, and Azure SQL Data Warehouse

  • Design and build of data pipelines from various data source formats (csv, json, SQL databases)

  • Create and support the associated scheduling logic for data pipelines using scheduling tool such as Autosys or Azure Logic Apps

  • Read and translate logical data models and use ETL skills to load the physical layer, based on an understanding of timing of data loads, data transformation, and optimization of ETL load performance.

  • Provide production support and test approaches for data management projects

  • Coordinate with infrastructure teams to ensure adequate capacity and performance planning

  • Integration of data pipeline metadata with Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog

  • Evaluation of industry developments in cloud and data related technologies, assessing their impact and applicability to the existing enterprise architecture.

  • Automation of data quality and testing checks of data pipeline code, utilizing the Gherkin framework or similar

  • Work within the agile delivery methodology, picking up data development tasks within a 2-week sprint, providing work estimates for tasks to project management, and participating in agile ceremonies.

  • Following existing Janus standards and procedures for data movement, as well as provide suggestions for new standards and procedures as the move toward cloud technologies matures

  • Work closely with Janus Technology (business analysts and .Net developers) and Janus Business resources on efforts of various scope

  • Participate in all phases of the agile systems development life cycle, including requirements analysis, design (including code design and code reviews), development, testing and deployment. Provide work estimates for development tasks in project management and participate in agile ceremonies where appropriate.

Technical skills and qualifications

  • Experience developing, maintaining and supporting ETL/ELT programs with various target/source types and transformation logic

  • Experience in data warehouse (with large datasets) and business intelligence environment working on the implementation of an enterprise data management processes, procedures, and decision support using Informatica Power Center v10.x, Data Quality (IDQ), Data Profiling (IDE)

  • Years of experience using Unix Shell Scripting and developing Oracle and SQL Server stored procedures

  • Experience building data pipelines for BI tools and/or data lake implementations using cloud-native tools such as AWS Glue, Azure Data Factory, Google Dataflow, and/or Python.

  • Experience using event-driven architectures (i.e. pub/sub messaging) to drive data pipelines is a plus.

  • Experience with Tableau, Cognos, Qlikview, or similar BI tools.
