The department

Operations Control is part of the broader Investment Operations department which is responsible for managing the relationship with Third Party Administrators and supporting investment activities by ensuring accuracy and quality of data provided to the front office. More specifically, Operations Control (as one of the teams within Investment Operations) is responsible for:-

  • Securities and OTC/ETD Derivatives Trade Management, Collateral Management, Corporate Actions, FX Management, Pooled Fund Dealing, Securities Lending, Reconciliations and Proxy Voting.

  • Oversight of the Investment Operations processes outsourced to Third Party Administrators.

  • Ensuring that these processes are being carried out by the TPAs as specified and within agreed parameters from an Operational perspective.

  • Assist the business in ensuring that these processes are designed and implemented to meet the required business outcomes including engagement with the TPAs to drive process improvements as necessary.

Overview of the role

Operations Control is a team of approximately 7 people, working collaboratively in a challenging but rewarding environment. The role will be to support the team in performing our core responsibilities, namely to ensure operational risk is managed effectively, that suitable controls are in place and working, and to ensure that the oversight of our outsourced Operations is appropriately performed.

Duties and responsibilities

Core responsibilities

  • Identify and address key risks, potential control weaknesses and inefficiencies of processes and systems

  • Assist with the team’s day-to-day oversight of outsourced functions and/or performing processes where functions remain in-house

  • Provide effective oversight and governance of our TPAs through meaningful MI and effective use of SLAs and KPIs

  • Establish optimal solutions to problems and requests in order to best support the needs of our clients

  • Co-ordinate across the business and our TPAs to ensure queries and issues are resolved in a timely fashion.

  • Support Operations projects and wider initiatives.

  • Work closely with other areas of the business to ensure we maintain a high level of involvement and understanding in key regulatory developments.

  • Working closely with other areas of the business to ensure that product change is managed in a controlled manner.

  • Contribute to periodic review of team processes and procedures.

  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders e.g. Middle Office providers, Transfer Agents, brokers and other areas of the Janus Henderson business.

  • Assume additional duties as assigned

Supervisory responsibilities

  • None

Technical skills and qualifications

  • Technical Knowledge of the asset management business and investment products across major asset classes (fixed income, equities, alternatives).

  • Strong knowledge/understanding and experience of Securities Trade Management & Settlement processes and managing the associated operational risks (required)

  • Strong understanding of Operational Risk, in particular those arising in the trade lifecycle and the ability to identify and highlight potential weaknesses in processes and devise the necessary Controls to mitigate them (required)

  • Knowledge/understanding and experience of private placements and the associated operational workflow (preferable)

  • IOC qualification including ‘Global Securities Operations’ and/or ‘Operational Risk’ technical units (preferable)
