Overview of the role
As Legal Counsel, you will be responsible for providing legal advice and support on a variety of derivative, investment and trading matters as they relate to Janus Henderson’s asset management matters globally. You will support the legal workstream on regulatory change projects, fund launches and provide ongoing support to front office, counterparty management, investment, trading and operations business partners. You will develop an advanced understanding of these specific business areas, the firm, client base and the market. You will be a trusted advisor to your business area(s) and have a responsibility to maintain well-developed internal and external professional relationships.
Duties and responsibilities
Provide legal advice to the firm and help to ensure that the firm operates in accordance within an acceptable level of legal risk.
Act as day-to-day legal support for front office investment teams, client onboarding, counterparty management, investment, trading and operations business partners in conjunction with external counsel where relevant and with escalation to others in the team as required.
Advise on, review and negotiate a variety of trading documentation (including Exchange Traded Derivatives Agreements, OTC Clearing Agreements, ISDA Master Agreements, Master Confirmations, IFEMAs, Prime Brokerage Agreements, ISDA protocol adherences), Electronic Trading Agreements and derivatives matters in investment management agreements.
Advise on and negotiate appropriate trading terms for a variety of proprietary funds and external segregated mandates, spanning multiple jurisdictions and corporate structures, with external counsel advice where necessary
Assist with Janus Henderson proprietary fund and segregated mandate fund launches, regulatory change projects, business change projects and investment product initiatives from a derivatives trading perspective;
Carry out additional duties as assigned.
Technical skills and qualifications
Experience as a solicitor within a law firm or financial services company required – (entry level NQ – 2 years’ post qualification experience).
Law degree qualification.
ISDA and ideally prime brokerage experience required.
