Title: Fund Manager, Diversified Alternatives

The Department

The Janus Henderson Diversified Alternatives team manages US$10.5bn1 across a broad range of alternative investment strategies from traditional to complex risk premia, including hedge fund strategies and enhanced index solutions. The team consists of

22 investment professionals based primarily in London, Denver and Sydney.

Within their enhanced index solutions, the Diversified Alternatives team aims to deliver incremental excess returns above a passive index core by combining both fundamental and technical strategies to create portfolios that are risk focused but return driven. The team also implements their active strategies independently as absolute return funds and manages standalone passive equity portfolios.

Overview of the Role

The Diversified Alternatives team is seeking an experienced passive equity manager to assist with the management of their passive funds and core elements of their enhanced index funds. The role will include all aspects of portfolio management for a range of global and regional developed equity portfolios, including position monitoring, portfolio re-balancing, daily liquidity management, and currency hedging.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the teams passive portfolios

  • Perform daily portfolio management tasks including daily liquidity management, portfolio re-balancing, corporate action analysis, risk and performance monitoring

  • Research index events and evaluate trading opportunities. Perform pre-trade analysis, develop trading strategies and analyse results post trade

  • Act independently within established investment policy process guidelines

  • Provide support to active fund management strategies where necessary

  • Support client servicing for existing Diversified Alternatives customers and distribution in the acquisition of new customers

  • Involved in product development or the development of new products to meet client needs

  • Maintain and develop effective working relationships with other Janus Henderson teams and within the Diversified Alternatives team

Technical Skills and Qualifications

  • Prior experience managing passive equity portfolios required

  • Typically degree educated in a business, mathematics or finance discipline, IMC required

  • Knowledge of relevant sector / product / instruments for the role

  • Microsoft office skills to include Excel, Word and PowerPoint

  • Knowledge of Bloomberg and other market data platforms

  • Knowledge of Charles River or other order management system

  • Knowledge of financial modelling with VBA, Python or similar programming language is desirable
