The department

The Technology department plays a crucial role in supporting the success of Janus Henderson. We are responsible for developing, implementing and supporting state-of-the-art software to support our fund management, trading, distribution and operational areas and for maintaining a stable and resilient IT infrastructure platform.

The Global Technology department has 400+ employees, running numerous change projects across all areas of the firm, including vendor implementations, regulatory change, in-house development, as well as overseeing change delivery from third party suppliers.

The Investment Systems development team sits within the Global Technology department and is responsible for the development and maintenance of the suite of platforms and applications used within the front office.

Overview of the role

As a Data Engineer within the Investment Systems development team, your primary focus will be to partner with the quantitative investment teams on the build of new custom solutions. These solutions provide fund managers with innovative data-driven research and enhanced decision-making capabilities.

This is a senior technical hands-on role and you will be expected to take ownership of key initiatives from design to delivery and to contribute to the architecture and development practices.

This role is closely integrated with the investment team. It is therefore important that you can communicate and collaborate effectively across all areas of technology and business partners globally.

Duties and responsibilities

You will:

  • Design, implement and support data pipelines targeting the Azure data platform and DataBricks

  • Productionization and scaling of quantitative research models

  • Participate in code design and code reviews

  • Design and support APIs

  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Technical skills and qualifications

  • Financial market knowledge

  • Excellent knowledge of Python and SQL

  • Experience of Azure or other cloud platforms

  • Experience of Apache Spark, DataBricks preferred

  • Real-world experience of designing, creating and administering automated systems for data capture and processing

  • Understanding of Agile delivery methodologies

  • Mathematical finance or data science experience useful but not required

  • Degree educated in mathematics or scientific/engineering discipline
