The department

Janus Henderson offers expertise across all major asset classes, with investment teams situated around the world. These dynamic teams are structured and operate in ways that are best suited to their asset classes and manage products designed to meet a range of investor needs globally. We do not impose top-down house views; instead we allow an appropriate level of flexibility within a controlled environment and encourage the sharing and debate of investment ideas. Our Investment teams are grouped under: Equities, Fixed Income, Multi-Assets and Alternatives.

Overview of the role

You will support Risk Managers in their role of helping Portfolio Managers improve the risk / return profile delivered to investors. You will contribute to the identification of risks in the portfolios covered, escalation and resolution of issues when identified and development of analytics and/or automation of existing analytics on the desk, etc.

You will also help ensure portfolio risk profiles reflect client expectations.

You will report into a senior member of the team to help oversee a broad group of portfolios. Although the role will have a specific asset class focus, we will make every effort to allow exposure to other asset classes worked on within the team.

Duties and responsibilities

You will:

  • Develop and produce risk management reports, build tools and models to support firm-wide risk management.

  • Responsible for constructing risk reports and running reporting processes to ensure accurate risk reporting are available on a timely basis.

  • Use technology and applications to facilitate automation of reporting and improving scalability.

  • Analyze risk attribution reports for use by the Risk Managers, Portfolio Managers, Global Head of Investment Risk, Asset Class Heads, Chief Investment Officer and other interested users of the data such as senior management, marketing, and compliance.

  • Work with Risk Managers in covering all aspects of investment risk, performance and other relevant metrics to ensure portfolios are managed in the client’s best interest.

  • Produce ad hoc reports for the business, focused on risk issues in the prevailing markets.

  • Support implementation and development of quantitative solutions for risk management.

  • Enhance the infrastructure supporting the generation of risk reports across different asset classes.

  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Has responsibility for supporting portfolios in the Fixed Income Asset Class.

Technical skills and qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required preferably in a scientific or financial discipline such as computer science, economics, finance, financial engineering.

  • Intermediary Excel /VBA required.Knowledge and/or experience of financial and quantitative risk modeling and/or Python, R or other programming/coding platforms very beneficial.

  • Experience with one commercial risk management system such as Factset, MSCI BarraOne, RiskMetrics, UBS Delta, Barclays POINT or Bloomberg would be valuable.

  • Knowledge of Fixed Income markets (duration, OAS, Yield and the relative importance of credit spread and interest rates) and products (investment grade, high yield, structured products, FX, derivatives).

  • Knowledge of risk models and concepts such ad tracking error, VaR, and stress testing methodologies not expected but welcome.

  • High degree of numeracy and quantitative skills.

  • Working toward CFA or other professional qualification an advantage

  • Experience in a similar buy side market risk role ideally; market risk role on the sell side will also be considered.

Ongoing competence in the role to be assessed, in line with applicable regulatory requirements, by:

  • Annual performance appraisal

  • Completion of all assigned compliance training

Compliance requirements

At a minimum the role will require you to:

  • Understand and follow laws and regulations applicable for your role, seeking the help of your supervising manager or Compliance if additional guidance is required

  • You are ultimately accountable for your actions and responsible for seeking further information on any or all of the above as necessary.

Compensation Information

The base salary range for this position is $90,000 - $100,000. This range is estimated for this role. Actual pay may be different.

Annual Bonus Opportunity: Position is eligible to receive an annual discretionary bonus award from the profit pool. The profit pool is funded based on Company profits. Individual bonuses are determined based on Company, department, team and individual performance.
