Overview of the Role

You will responsible for keeping businesses compliant with various local and state tax regulations. You will implement measures and develop policies for dealing with various areas relating to state taxes. You will perform estimations, analysis, planning, and research and oversee audits, including the following tasks:

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review and lead staff deliverables including complex multi-state income tax returns, sales and use tax returns, personal property returns, estimates, tax planning calculations, and memos for C-Corp and Partnerships

  • Expertise in state income tax planning, including nexus and apportionment methodology

  • Lead state tax audits including direct communication with state agency staff

  • Calculate the state tax rate

  • Improve processes by developing or implementing best practices

  • Investigate new tax laws and developments

  • Identify tax issues that may arise in corporate activities

  • Conduct complex tax research and prepare memorandum outlining findings and conclusions.

  • Engage in special projects as requested by Management

  • Mentor, supervise, and delegate duties to staff.

  • Lead department in knowledge of software, processes, and workflows.

  • Manage and monitor deliverables and due dates

  • Take direction and report to the senior tax executive.

  • Must have sound knowledge of basic functionality of Onesource or similar tax software and SAP systems or equivalent accounting ERP software

  • Excellent oral and written communication

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills

Supervisory Responsibilities

Manages exempt and non-exempt staff either directly or through subordinate supervisors. Plans, allocates, monitors work and makes decisions regarding employment, performance appraisal, training, salary adjustments and related personnel actions. Develops long term staffing strategies for the department. Establishes departmental goals and delegates tasks accordingly.

Technical Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years public accounting experience in corporate tax required.

  • Industry experience preferred.

  • Comprehensive Accounting knowledge.

  • Must be detail oriented and highly analytical.

  • Proven ability to understand and use various tax materials, forms and instructions.

  • Proven ability to comprehend and utilize complex procedures without guidance.

  • Advanced Excel and Word knowledge. Proficient in CCH ProSystems FX is helpful.

  • Displays proactive, critical thinking with strong attention to detail.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills

  • Excellent research and analytical skills

  • Excellent computer skills including MS Word, Excel and SAP

  • Ability to work independently with little or no direct supervision.

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.

  • Master’s degree in Taxation preferred.
