The department

The Global Technology department plays a crucial role in supporting the success of the business. We are responsible for developing and implementing state-of-the-art software and hardware maintenance to support our fund management, trading, distribution and operational areas with secure, stable and resilient technology platforms.

Overview of the role

  • You are a hardworking senior technology leader with experience leading large global IT organizations. You will own delivery, architecture, and operations of our global infrastructure platform including 28 offices around the world and will have team members and direct reports in North America, Europe, and Asia.

  • You will be driven to deliver both a stable platform that supports the Janus Henderson business needs but also to innovate and use cloud-based infrastructure while evolving our IT organization to meet the strategic demands of our business.

  • You will report directly to the firms Chief Technology Officer and are a member of the Janus Henderson technology senior leadership team which will influence the overall strategy for how technology enables our business to better serve our clients.

    Duties and responsibilities

    You will:

  • Lead, grow, develop, and operate a hard-working global infrastructure organization; foster a strong culture of operational health, standard methodologies, detail orientation, and innovation, driven by a desire for simplicity

  • Develop and drive long-term strategy for our IT infrastructure, architecture, and operations for high performance, security, reliability, and usability

  • Drive prioritization of critical IT initiatives and handle timely decision-making for new technology solutions

  • Partner with other global technology delivery and core platform teams to understand and support solutions for meeting our strategic business objectives

  • Manage operational and initiative budget for IT with a solid sense of balance for efficiency and focus

  • Communicate to key business partners including our executive team and Janus Henderson Directors, throughout the IT organization, and to external parties

  • Develop and deliver of a performance for the price framework to deliver, measure, and communicate the business value of our IT infrastructure

  • Develop and organize for delivery of key strategies including but not limited to:

  • Network and Telecommunications

  • Server and Client Technologies

  • Cloud-based infrastructure

  • Continuous Integration and Delivery/DevOps

  • Mobility

  • Collaboration

  • Have senior oversight of vendors and third-party partners

  • Partner with the Business Continuity team and acting as point of escalation for Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Events

    Technical skills and qualifications

  • An excellent ability to evaluate risks and trade-offs and act critically: We know there are many ways to build infrastructure; you’ll find and champion the best approaches for our team

  • Experience operating infrastructure services at a global scale

  • Experience leading a global organization at scale (greater than a 100-person team)

  • Experience delivering modern IT infrastructure strategies including hyperconvergence and cloud-based solutions

  • Experience with implementing a comprehensive measurement and KPI-driven infrastructure

  • Engineering experience preferred with Cisco networking and servers, VMWare virtualization, HPE storage, Microsoft Azure cloud

  • Asset Management or finance industry knowledge and experience strongly preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required

  • Experience managing or supporting application development and/or engineering background desirable

  • Significant experience in information technology management

    Competencies required

  • Technical proficiency and proven experience in the implementation and operation of a broad range of modern infrastructure components

  • Strong knowledge of modern service management and change management / incident management standard methodologies

  • Sharing information and promoting good collaboration practices for our global team with the aim of crafting shared understanding and goal alignment across teams and regions

  • Empowering your teams and promoting decision-making at the lowest level possible

  • Embracing new ideas regardless of the source and encouraging innovation through cultivation of a learning organization

  • Demonstrated experience managing a technology team and developing trust within the team and with partners and stakeholders

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, demonstrated ability to communicate technology concepts to non-technology personnel

  • Business case development skills for developing budgets, cost/benefit, total cost of ownership, ROI and other financial analysis as needed

  • Ability to deliver on full workloads and high expectations while remaining focused and organized in a fast-paced environment

    Ongoing competence in the role to be assessed, in line with applicable regulatory requirements, by:

  • Annual performance appraisal

  • Completion of all assigned compliance training

    Compliance requirements

    At a minimum the role will require you to:

  • Place the interest of Janus Henderson’s Clients first, act in accordance with TCF (Treating Customers Fairly) principles

  • Understand and follow laws and regulations applicable for your role, seeking the help of your supervising manager or Compliance if additional guidance is required

  • Understand and abide by all Janus Henderson policies applicable to your role, and seek support/guidance of the policy owner guidance when required

  • You are ultimately accountable for your actions and responsible for seeking further information on any or all of the above as necessary

    Compensation Information

    The base salary range for this position is $225,000 - $250,000. This range is estimated for this role. Actual pay may be different.

    Annual Bonus Opportunity: Position is eligible to receive an annual discretionary bonus award from the profit pool. The profit pool is funded based on Company profits. Individual bonuses are determined based on Company, department, team and individual performance.
