Overview of the Role

The successful candidate will lead a small team of data architects and data analysts in the US. This team assists in the design and support the enterprise data platform to support all aspects of the business, with a particular focus on components located in the U.S.

The team’s role revolves around the integration of internal and external data sources into the central data hub and data warehouses. Data is integrated centrally to derive a single version of the truth and interfaces developed from there to feed business applications, warehouses and data marts.

Projects typically include the design of;

  • Data feeds between external systems and a central data hub and warehouse.

  • Data feeds between the central data hub/warehouse and business applications or data marts.

  • Architectural and data schema design in the data hub, warehouses and data marts.

  • Master data management applications.

  • Database solutions to derive or calculate decision support measures from raw data.

  • Data solutions for business intelligence and predictive analytics.Duties and Responsibilities

  • Line management and technical leadership of a team of data architects and analysts.

  • Regular reporting on project status and team performance to the Head of Data Architecture and Analysis in London.

  • Ownership of the local US logical and physical data schema design for a sales and marketing warehouse and data marts supporting local US MI reporting and business intelligence;

  • Ownership of the data architecture supporting a global predictive analytics service.

  • Contribution to the data architecture strategy to meet global business requirements.

  • Quality assurance and governance of new data architecture components and enhancements, ensuring conformance with global data design principles.

  • Championship of the global data architecture design principles.

  • Consultancy and advisory services to project managers, business analysts, data analysts and developers on best use of the data architecture.

  • Proposal and implementation of data architecture team process improvements and methods of engaging and collaborating with other IT teams and departments.

  • Provision of work estimates and other planning information to project managers.

  • Evaluation of industry developments in data related technologies, assessing their impact and applicability to the existing enterprise architecture.

  • May manage some aspects of the annual budget including hardware, software, staffing (permanent and contract), consulting and operating expenses.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Manages exempt and non-exempt staff either directly or through subordinate supervisors. Plans, allocates and monitors work and makes decisions regarding employment, performance appraisal, training, salary adjustments and related personnel actions. Helps to establish objectives to ensure achievement of department strategy.

Technical Skills and Qualifications

  • Leadership, management and team building skills.

  • Knowledge and experience of common software development methods and the full development lifecycle.

  • Knowledge of common data warehousing architectures and ETL methods.

  • Working knowledge of structured business systems analysis methods, especially relational data modelling, dimensional (star schema) modelling and process modelling.

  • Asset Management or finance industry knowledge and experience. Experience in the distribution side of the fund management business is particularly desirable.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required.

  • Graduate level work in management, MIS or computer science desirable.

  • Six years in information technology management and/or application development.

  • Leadership position in a large information technology development project using methodologies and standards.

  • Good working understanding of Project Management principles & techniques.

  • Team working and leading; used to working collaboratively with peers, organizing and directing the work of analysts and developers, displaying a flexible and constructive attitude.

  • Problem solving and analysis; understanding of complex issues and problems and able to design pragmatic but robust solutions.

  • Self-motivation; possessing a natural ability to take initiative and progress projects and initiatives with minimal support.

  • Strong written and verbal communication and reasoning skills.

  • Time management and planning; managing personal workload effectively, setting realistic and achievable targets, managing expectations and delivering to those targets.

Ongoing competence in the role to be assessed by:

  • Annual Performance Appraisal

  • Completion of all assigned Compliance training
